Your new position

We are currently looking for a Characterisation Engineer for our new epitaxy focused R&D and manufacturing facility in Brisbane.  Working under the general direction and guidance of the Characterisation Manager, you as the Characterisation Engineer will play a critical role in the Technology Development Department and will be focused on providing critical material and structural property data on our epitaxially grown compound semiconductor heterostructures.  This is a highly collaborative role with other key specialist engineers, where you will work on projects focused on improvement and optimisation of metrology systems as well data management and analysis.

To ensure your ongoing development success as a specialist in this area, continuous on-the-job training will be provided to successful candidates.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Operating metrology systems to measure the properties of epitaxial wafers, including the use of specialised tools such as X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) systems and completing associated data analyses and provide feedback to the team.
  • Troubleshooting and correcting hardware/software failures in characterisation equipment in a timely manner, and liaising across teams and with equipment suppliers as required.
  • Producing software tools to gain insight from available data, improving analysis and analysis throughput, and otherwise improving productivity.
  • Maintaining procedure documentation for the operation and calibration of characterisation equipment; and maintaining calibration for key tools and standards in your care.
  • Liaising with local and international partners (e.g. universities, equipment vendors) to facilitate material and/or device characterisation beyond our internal capabilities.

About You

You will be degree qualified in any engineering or science discipline, with a knowledge of semiconducting devices.  Practical experience in the characterisation of thin films and/or heterostructures, and experience with XRD measurement and analysis is highly desirable.  Amongst your many personal attributes, you will be a proactive and analytically minded individual contributor, who has a keen eye for detail and thrives on solving technically challenging problems.  Being highly proficient in at least one programming language for data analysis such as Python or Matlab, and having an interest in efficient and effective solutions to software challenges will be required.  You are practical, self-motivated, and able to work effectively with others as well as independently.  Excellent time management, organisational, communication, interpersonal and analytical skills are essential. You will enjoy the opportunity to continually learn and deepen your understanding of this highly technical and innovative area.
