The Team

Silanna is experiencing a period of growth and is looking for passionate and innovative engineers, who are driven to collaboratively solve technically challenging problems in close-knit interdisciplinary engineering teams.

The Applications Engineering team work closely with product marketing, engineering, product test and quality to create reference designs to meet customer requirements.   In essence, we identify the product characteristics and demonstrate how the customer can best use the UV-C LED product.

Your New Position

In this role we are looking for a like-minded Application Engineer who will work at our state of the art office and manufacturing facility in Brisbane alongside some of the finest scientists in the world. You will be working on designing, implementation and optimization of hardware and software under a general guidance from the Application Engineering Manager. You will be owning the development of reference designs that support Silanna’s customers to evaluate its UV-C products in sub-systems such as water treatment, air treatment, surface treatment, sensing and curing. You will act as an interface between the high-tech UV-C LED products developed by Silanna and the customers who develop solutions for a high value problem.  To ensure your ongoing development success as a specialist in this area, continuous on-the-job training will be provided by highly experienced colleagues

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, building, testing, and documenting analogue circuits design, printed circuit boards (PCB).
  • Devising experimental setups including optical bench, mechanical jigs, etc. is highly regarded.
  • Validation and verification of the electro-optical system, performing data acquisition using custom software and calibrated lab instruments.
  • Identifying optimal solutions for customer issues by collaborating with internal functional groups, including product marketing, engineering, product test and quality.
  • Designing systems using popular CAD tools such as OrCAD, Altium, Fusion360 etc.
  • Performing simulations to optimise the design using popular tools such as Zemax / LightTools, PSPICE etc.
  • Writing programs using C/C++ based languages, LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, JMP etc. to collect and analyse test data.
  • Publishing reports and documents to show case the data to a wider technical and non-technical audience.
  • Providing technical support and documentation, including application notes and design guides, for customers.
  • Developing and continuously improving procedures and processes to maximise efficiencies and outcomes of the team, while adhering to the company’s safe work practices.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be degree qualified in any engineering or science discipline and have experience working in electronics.  Candidates with expertise in optical design or in a related field will be highly regarded.  Amongst your many personable attributes, you will be proactive, analytical, with a keen eye for detail and thrive on working with others to solve technically challenging problems.  You are self-motivated, and able to work effectively with others as well as independently and have excellent time management, organisational, communication, interpersonal and sub-task planning skills. You will enjoy the opportunity to continually learn and deepen your understanding of this highly technical and innovative area to become a specialist in UV LEDs.
