MBE Equipment Engineer

Your New Position

Silanna is seeking a passionate, self-motivated and collaborative MBE Equipment Engineer who is excited to be a key member of a close-knit Equipment Team who support the development of new UV emitter products and solutions.

When you join our team, as the MBE Equipment Engineer you will be responsible for working alongside other skilled Equipment Engineers to undertake routine preventative maintenance of the MBE and UHV equipment. Working with the Equipment Team, you will utilize your technical equipment knowledge and critical thinking skills to support the development of semiconductor UVLED products.

You will undertake a critical role that is focused on ensuring that our equipment is operating at a high optimal efficiency and will troubleshoot in a collaborative manner to correct and prevent any deficient performance of the equipment. This will see you exercising judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and use of engineering concepts whilst applying a systematic approach to troubleshoot and collaboratively provide solutions to identify and resolve a variety of equipment problems in an efficient manner.

Whilst working with a Sr Equipment Engineer, key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Engaging with the MBE Process team to perform troubleshooting on MBE Equipment and associated UHV equipment malfunctions.
  • Optimising the performance of the equipment through undertaking continuous improvement processes.
  • Conducting regular inspections and maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and compliance.
  • Creating, preparing, and maintaining documentations such as: Standard Operating Procedures, Preventative Maintenance Procedures, Safety Documents, etc.
  • Supporting MBE Process Team, epitaxial film growths and MBE continue improvement activities.
  • Maintaining procurement of spare-parts, consumables, etc and help manage inventory requirements when needed to ensure the preventive maintenance can be carried out timely and safely.
  • Undertaking and supporting equipment installs.
  • Communicating and working collaboratively within the MBE Process Team and across the Technology Department to ensure that the equipment is working to the manufacturing standards and achieving optimal efficiency.
  • Working from time to time on call outside of normal working hours (usually from home) – responding to equipment or process issues that require intervention.

About You

You will possess qualifications in Mechanical, Chemistry, Material Science, or a related engineering field or equivalent years of experience working on semiconductor equipment; and have a strong aptitude for being mechanical minded and for continuous learning.  This will ideally be coupled with Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) Equipment with hands on UHV and vacuum technology knowledge with good UHV and/or clean room practices.

Equipment Maintenance experience working on Vacuum Deposition Tools e.g., MOCVD, PVD, CVD, etc are considered strongly as transferable knowledge for this role as an MBE Equipment Engineer.

Throughout your Equipment Engineering experience, you will have demonstrated critical thinking and trouble shooting skills to identify and anticipate problems and to work collaboratively with others to make logical fact-based decisions to solve the problem.

Other key personal attributes, skills and experience include:

  • Experience working with engineering drawings (electrical, blueprints of hardware)
  • Understanding of electronics and temperature control systems.
  • Experience with evaluating and monitoring equipment performance.
  • Experience with database query, Excel and JMP analysis tools. (Desirable)
  • A strong, hands-on individual contributor and a self-starter.
  • Strong team collaboration skills working with key stakeholders.
  • HRWL on Dogging is preferred or willingness to acquire as a requirement of the role.
  • Gantry/overhead Crane certification is preferred or must be willing to acquire as a requirement of the role.
